Black Octopus Society: Are You Ready?

My journey in racial awareness began before my birth I am sure. My journey in racial scholarship started as a teenager. My stepfather required me to read Black Enterprise Magazine while I was in high school. There was quite a bit more going on at that time, so my most impactful education on this subject started as an undergraduate in college.

It is one thing to be aware of the experiences of being Black. It is quite another thing to even understand the context of those experiences. It is yet another to understand how those experiences fit into the grander scheme of United States history, and quite another thing to understand it in world history.

I rarely meet people who even understand themselves in this day with what persists. Most people talk about racial issues in historical terms. It is insufficient to only address history unless one scopes history as a minute ago.

Here Resmaa talks about why he started the space:

Join Black Octopus Society if you want to self-pace, pause and play with toys toward greater stamina for this marathon called life. It's only $89 for a year, or $9.99 per month! All the resources you need to get started come with that, along with live events and a whole community of people helping to develop the communal experience of BOS! If you would like to credit me with inviting you in please use this link.

I wrote twice about Somatic Abolitionism in 2021. The first time I wrote about the initial impact of Somatic Abolitionism was here. The second time was here.
